As co-founder and executive director of L.E.A.D. Center for Youth in Atlanta, Kelli Stewart uses sports as a way to help kids learn skills that give them a leg up in life…
And that effort is succeeding, she said during a recent interview with our Ultimate Sports Parent podcast.
The program helps kids overcome barriers to participating in sports by paying for their participation in baseball and tennis and even transporting them to practices and games.
But the students who participate in the L.E.A.D. program have a 100% high school graduation rate, 91% college enrollment and contribute 3,500 service hours per year.
The program focuses on sports-based youth development, which is using sports to help marginalized youth become successful as they transition into adulthood–graduating from high school, doing well in sports, going to college–for example–and then using that success to help others.
