Helping Sports Kids Focus
Does your young athlete have a difficult time focusing during practices or competition?
Not only can your athlete be distracted by outer distractions, such as parents coaching from the sidelines, but also their own internal distractions.
We have identified many internal distractions for young athletes.
These include:
- Thinking about results
- Worrying about what others will say
- Dwelling on past mistakes
- Focusing on negative thoughts
- Worrying about making mistakes
These are just a few examples of internal distractions that many young athletes must cope with to stay focused.
Your athletes can learn the skill of refocusing. Young athletes can learn how to focus during competitions and practices and to refocus when they get off task.
The mental sbkill of refocusing is one we teach everyday to athletes. It’s a basic skill your athletes must master.
They must master this mental skill because athletes are not perfect–even with their focus. They will get distracted now and then– even when performing well.
That’s why Dr. Cohn created “The Focused Sports Kid” CD program…
In “The Focused Sports Kid,” young athletes learn to master the skill of refocusing. We teach them how to identify distractions and refocus.
Not only do we help your athlete focus better, but we also help sports parents instill this important skill.
We teach sports parents how to identify what distracts athletes and also how to support athletes during practice and competition.
